SCHOOL BEGINS ON AUGUST 20¸ 2012

All pupils new to the system must bring their social security card (optional) and birth certificate when registering.  Immunization records also must be checked at registration.  Please bring these records with you when you register. 

IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW:

            All Kindergarten pupils must be five (5) years old on or before September 15¸ 2012¸ verified by a birth certificate.

            All First Grade pupils must be six (6) years old on or before September 15¸ 2012¸ verified by a birth certificate.

Elementary Schools Grades K-4

All K-4 students new to the District are asked to register at Central Office¸ 320 Monroe Ave.

                        August 1st                                                                 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

All returning Harrison¸ Jackson¸ Truman¸ and Washington K-4 students should report to their home school location for registration on August 2nd and 3rd                       8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Monroe Intermediate School 5-6

All 5th – 6th students are asked to register at Monroe Intermediate School as follows:

                        5th & 6th Grade         August 7th & August 8th   8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Registration information will be mailed by August 3rd. Bring all information to registration. Students may pick up their schedule at the time of registration when all paperwork has been completed. 

Lincoln Middle School - Grades 7-8

All seventh and eighth graders will register at Lincoln Middle School as follows:

                        7th & 8th Grade         August 7th & August 8th    8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.    

Registration information will be mailed by August 3rd. Bring all information to registration.  All students should have a picture taken for their school ID card.  Students may pick up their schedule at the time of registration when all paperwork has been completed.

Green River High School - Grades 9-12 

Students in grades 9-12 new to the District or not currently enrolled should call 872-4743 beginning August 1st to schedule a registration appointment.

All students should plan to attend GRHS “Start Up” on the following dates and times:

            Seniors                         8:00 a.m.  – August 13th

            Juniors                         10:00 a.m. – August 13th

            Sophomores                  12:30 to 2:00 p.m. – 13th

            Freshmen                       2:00 to 3:00 p.m. - A – L August 13th

                                                 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. – M-Z – August 13th

August 16th – Freshman Parent Night at 6:30PM in the Auditorium.

 Please consult the information that you receive in the mail.

All necessary forms¸ registration¸ and schedule information will be mailed the first week of August.  School pictures will be taken at each session.  All students should have a picture taken for school purposes.  Students do not have to pay to have these taken.  They will pay only if they wish to purchase a picture packet. 

Students planning to participate in any type of interscholastic athletics or cheerleading must have a physical prior to the first practice.  (Policy JHCA – Physical Examinations of Students.)

Expedition Academy - Grades 10-12

Expedition Academy is an alternative school serving grades 10 - 12.  Students wishing to attend Expedition need to complete an application process.  To obtain an application¸ you need to contact the school principal at 872-4801.  After completing an application and returning it to the principal¸ you will be scheduled for an interview.  Interviews for new applicants will be held August 6th¸ 7th and 8th.

Registration for seniors will take place on August 9th and 10th   For sophomores and juniors¸ registration will be held on August 13th and 14th.  All students will be notified and will be given an appointment to come in and register for the fall term

PHYSICALS FOR STUDENT ATHLETES AND CHEERLEADERS 

2012-2013

Students in grades 6-12 planning to participate in athletics during the 2012-2013 school year are reminded they must have a physical examination before beginning practice.  Local physicians have the physical forms and will conduct your examination in their office.  There will be no "mass physicals" in August.  Physical forms are also available at GRHS office.  Telephone your doctor and make an appointment.  A physical examination¸ anytime after June 1¸ 2011¸ will be good for all activities during the 2012-2013 school year.

STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE

For the 2012-2013 school year¸ Sweetwater County School District No. 2 will provide secondary medical expense insurance coverage on all enrolled students for injuries resulting from an accident which occurs during the school day or when students are attending or participating in a school supervised and sponsored activity (only).

Injuries that result over a period of time (i.e.¸ tennis elbow¸ hernia¸ chronic soreness¸ etc) are not covered.  Eyeglasses¸ contact lenses¸ and hearing aids are not covered under this insurance.

NOTICE OF CLAIM:  A parent or student wishing to file an accident expense claim must notify and submit claim form to Emily Wolffing at the Central Administration Office of the District¸ 320 Monroe Avenue¸ Green River¸ within 24 hours of the accident.  Verification of the accident must be provided by administration¸ coach¸ or sponsor.  The District will submit eligible claims to the insurance company no later than 20 days after the filing.

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) require that Sweetwater County School District #2 identify "Student Data Directory Information" that can be given to organizations/agencies outside of School District #2. The District will be requesting parents of new students to the District/or Building to complete the "Student Data Directory Information" form to indicate what categories on the FERPA Compliance form that you DO NOT want to go out to organizations/agencies requesting information. Those organizations/agencies requesting such information WILL NOT receive any of the "Student Data Directory Information" marked. Parents may change the selections on the FERPA Compliance form by putting a request in writing and submitting it to their child's school.

Please Note: School District #2 will take NON-RESPONSES as authorization to release the "Student Data Directory Information" to all requesting organizations/agencies.

 HOME SCHOOLING

In accordance with Wyoming State Law parents of a child (1) whose seventh birthday falls on or before September 15 of any year and (2) who has not yet attained his/her sixteenth birthday or completed the tenth grade who choose to home school their child¸ shall be required to provide a basic academic program appropriate to the educational level of each child.  To comply with this requirement¸ parents must (1) provided evidence they have enrolled their child (ren) or have purchased a correspondence program with an agency that regularly provides curriculum materials for home schooling; or (2) they will be providing by other means a sequentially progressive curriculum of fundamental instruction. 

Evidence of such program shall be submitted to the Superintendent of Schools for approval by the Board of Trustees.  It is the policy of this District not to interfere with or dictate the method or means of instruction in home-based education¸ but only to assure that any home-based educational unit is providing a basic academic educational program to resident children of compulsory attendance age.  The District reserves the right to require appropriate testing for placement in a grade level of any student entering the District's schools from a home-based education program.

SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2 SCHOOL BREAKFAST/LUNCHES

School Breakfast and Lunches will be served in all Green River/Granger schools beginning the first day of school¸ August 20¸ 2012 - (Expedition Academy offers breakfast on site.  Lunch is served daily at Lincoln Middle School).  Breakfast and lunch money can be brought to school August 20¸ 2012¸ and it will be added to your student’s account¸ or if you prefer to pre-pay:

Prepayment for meals will be taken during registration at all buildings or you may make payments on line.  You can do so by going to the district website at www.sw2.k12.wy.us.  From there you will click on Food Service and then On Line Payment.  You will need your student’s food service ID which is also their school ID.  If your student does not remember his or her ID please call our office at 872-5511 and we can assist you.  We do not have the capabilities of taking credit cards at the schools or over the phone.  

Our School Lunch program is automated and students have his/her own breakfast/lunch account.  We do not have family accounts.  It is preferred that each student have his/her own check or cash for the account. Checks are preferred for making payment as they can be traced if questions arise on an account. If only one check can be made for more than one student in the same school¸ please attach a note to the check indicating how much goes into each account¸ the full name of the students and their grades.   This will help prevent confusion as to which account the money is intended for. 

If you would like to make payments on line you can do so by going to the district website at www.sw2.k12.wy.us.  From there you will click on Food Service and then On Line Payment.  You will need your student’s food service ID which is also their school ID.  If your student does not remember his or her ID please call our office and we can assist you.  872-5511

If your student had money from last school year¸ it was transferred to their current school.  If you have questions¸ please call your student’s school and ask for the Food Service Manager.

Free and reduced applications can be completed on line after August 1st.  You can go to the district web site¸ click on food service and click the Free and Reduced App. tab to your left.  A new application is required each year even if there is no change in income from the previous year.  If you prefer a paper copy¸ they will be available in District school offices and at Central Office after August 1¸ 2012. They can be returned to the Food Service Office at 320 Monroe Ave.¸ Green River¸ WY 82935 or sent the first day of school¸ August 20¸ with your student.  Should you have any questions please call 872-5511.  If your children receive free or reduced breakfast or lunch¸ they are also eligible to receive waivers on sports fees and other programs.  To receive fee waivers or receive other free programs¸ parents must fill out the form attached to the free and reduced application giving us permission to release your child’s name to the proper school official.  The school lunch program will not release any student’s name without permission of the parent/guardian. 

Your children may qualify for free or reduced price meals if your household income falls at or below the limits on this chart.

 Students who were on free or reduced lunches at the end of last school year will continue the same eligibility status into the coming school year until October 10¸ 2012.  If status changes upon processing of new applications for 2012-2013¸ the new status is effective immediately.  If a new application form is not filled out as of the October 10th date¸ your child will be dropped from receiving free and/or reduced meals without notice.  If a student receives free or reduced lunches¸ they also qualify for free or reduced breakfasts.
