Education funds provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provide Sweetwater School District #2 a unique opportunity to jump start school reform and improvement efforts while also saving and creating jobs and stimulating the economy.  These one-time resources should be spent in ways most likely to lead to improved results for students, long-term gains in school and school system capacity, and increased productivity and effectiveness.

Our District will receive an unprecedented one-time funding in the following areas:

$728,251 – IDEA Recovery Funds for Services to Children and Youths with Disabilities – To ensure that children with disabilities, including children aged three through five, have access to a free appropriate public education to meet each child's unique needs and prepare him or her for further education, employment, and independent living.

$31,945 – IDEA Part B 619 Preschool - To provide special education and related services, in accordance with Part B of IDEA to children with disabilities aged three through five years.

$367,351 – Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act/NCLB - For schools that have high concentrations of students from families that live in poverty in order to help improve teaching and learning for students most at risk of failing to meet state academic achievement standards.

$17,871 – Title I Part D - Prevention and Intervention Programs for Children and Youth who are Neglected, Delinquent or At-Risk

Title II Part D Competitive Grant – Implement 21st Century classrooms using innovative strategies that enhance instruction, facilitate teaching and learning, and improve student achievement.

Race to the Top Competitive Grants (pending) - to support education reform and innovation in classrooms.  These funds have not been released from the US Dept. of Education at this time.  More information will be forthcoming.

To ensure the success of achieving long term student improvement and implement innovative strategies, the District needs the cooperation and input from all members of the Green River Community.  We welcome any comments or ideas to:  Central Office, Attn: ARRA, 320 Monroe Ave., Green River, WY, 82935 or e-mail to: ARRA@sw2.k12.wy.us
